And this is what happened<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know who she is if the meme of the name wasn’t a tip-off. Late 90s, early 00s wrote this runaway-success middle-grade-&-quality book series. Was, is, a worldwide phenomenon. Spawned a whole merchandise franchise. Seven of the books, made eight movies & a bunch of spinoffs. Even has a theme park ride or something. I don’t know. I’m not<\/em> that big into it, much less the fandom. But I can tell you which of the fictional houses I belong in, that’s how pervasive the body of her work is in pop culture. And if you know I’m talking about, then you also know she’s a raging TERF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protip: I’m not going to carry out the labor of explaining how she’s a TERF or dissecting her barely intelligible bigotted scree<\/s> “essay” (a nice reminder that she peaked with her writing talent and has just dipped since.) And I’m going to gloss on the definition of a TERF: Regressives cosplaying as feminists to attack trans people. Since their only defining features are hatred of trans people and a rhetoric style similar to some Sharpie goon from the internet, they come across as intellectually empty. When their words, however, have weight they empower anti-progressive legislative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is precisely what just happened. Most TERFs are nobodies. But not SWSNBN, no, not her. She has a pretty wide platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And her platform extended across the pond to the United States, where people who were on board to boycott and burn her books two decades ago for being unchristian now think she’s a champion for their “rights.” I don’t have to explain that if your rights are enabled by denying someone else theirs, they’re not rights, they’re wrongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when this shitbag from Oklahoma (a state that professes that it’s Ok<\/em>, which is not all that endearing let’s be honest) stands up in the Senate to quote from SWSNBN’s anti-woman ramblings and blocks the vote for the Equality Act in the US, that tells me her platform is too damn big.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’d love to say that deplatforming will help, discrediting and ridiculing her platform and the commercialized empire her work has built, but it won’t. Has credibility has ever stopped a regressive from worshipping the feet of their precious idiot idols?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m just angry. And I want to be happy with the Title VII Supreme Court decision. But I’m not, because it’s not enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
